Secret to Garden Success: Cover Crops

  • Organic Hammer 155 Quail Gardens Drive Encinitas, CA, 92024 United States (map)

In our past newsletter we mentioned the importance of cover cropping and if you're ordering a Winter Toolkit (part of our Seasonal Homesteader's Toolkit package, See: Shop) you'll find these magical seeds inside! So what is cover cropping and why is it important?

Whether you have an orchard, planter boxes, an organic farm or garden or are ready to break ground and get started on one, cover cropping is an essential part of any successful and productive piece of land.

Cover cropping is a way to rebuild and protect your soil during fallow periods in your garden. These seeds will grow into plants that break up hard soils, fix nitrogen in the soil, build up biomass and prevent erosion. We will cover the importance of this practice, the different types of cover crop, how to plant and when, and what to do once the plants have grown. Seeds will be available for purchase after the class.

Please come to this informative workshop and get these seeds in the ground before the next rain! Your soil will thank you.

Cost: $10-15 suggested donation
